1:24 dollhouse miniature furniture original art :: Posted by: Hazel on March 24th, 2018

1:24 Scale Dolls House Furniture

Painting Tiny Art

I was recently asked if I painted for 1:24 scale. Which I hadn’t before, but I took the commission as you may know from reading my blog I do love a challenge …… I painted a tiny cottage landscape just 1 inch by 1 1/4 inches, following showing this I have sold a couple more paintings for this scale dolls house and been asked to do more commissions.

I showed these tiny pieces on Facebook and have had a lot of comments, this has lead me to paint more pictures in the scale and this week I decided to try something different.

My 1:12 (the size I mostly paint for ) dolls house screens / room dividers have always been very popular. Each being an original painting as a unique piece of miniature furniture. So I decided to try some at this smaller scale.

Quote about dolls house scales

“The most common standard for
adult collectors is 1:12 scale, also called 1″ or one inch scale (where 1 foot is represented by 1 inch.) Among adult collectors there are also smaller scales which are much more common in the United States than in Britain. 1:24 or half inch scale (1 foot is 1/2″) was popular in Marx dollhouses in the 1950s but only became widely available in collectible houses after 2002, about the same time that even smaller scales became more popular, like 1:48 or quarter inch scale (1 foot is 1/4″) and 1:144 or “dollhouse for a dollhouse” scale.”

Painted in Encaustic Wax paints on specialist gloss card. I have backed the panels with card and the back has a coloured card backing to cover up the paper tape that creates the concertina effect.

Approximately 7.5 cm high with each panel 2 cm wide. They are delicate pieces of furniture.

It is great fun and very challenging painting this tiny.

Hope you like these new tiny pieces of art and furniture. My Husband Adrian made me this little set up help me get my eye in for this tiny scale. And it makes a lovely way to display the art and screens.

I will be painting more in this scale, in fact I have four to paint as a commission for a collector in Scotland who has a country cottage style dolls house 1:24 scale. I will also be listing pieces in my Etsy show over the next few weeks too.

Ballroom Dancing Paintings Miniature Art :: Posted by: Hazel on March 6th, 2018

Strictly “Miniature” Come Dancing …………

New Ideas …… Ballroom Dancing

We have been having some extreme weather here the south of England this week last and its been very cold in my studio, so I haven’t been painting very much, however with a change to the weather I have now been back painting, I haven’t been idle while not in the studio and have been sketching and “doodling” as I call it, And the ideas for some new paintings have been awaiting me being able to get my time back with the encaustic wax flowing ……

New subject are always Fun

These Dolls house miniature paintings are shown here on display in my 1:12 Art Gallery. If you read my blog you will know I have my own miniature Property that houses my own collection of miniature Art In Wax and where I display my new paintings for photographing.

These three new pieces each feature some dancers, maybe in a dancing competition like we used to see on the TV in “Come Dancing” (I’m showing my age now ) or “Strictly Come Dancing”, or at a Ball or dance in a period setting, these dolls house pieces have lots of opportunity for display.

Chocolate Box Miniature Original Art Cottage Paintings :: Posted by: Hazel on November 26th, 2017

Chocolate Box Art

Pretty Landscapes with a Traditional Feel

Sometimes a traditional or pretty scene of landscape catches your eye and you think, arrrrhh that’s like a picture from a chocolate box. But then maybe I’m showing my age !!

I just googles it and ….

And wiki tells me ……

Chocolate box art originally referred literally to decorations on chocolate boxes. Over the years, however, the terminology has changed; it is now applied broadly as an often pejorative term to describe paintings and designs that are overly idealistic and sentimental.
