Art In Wax : Encaustic Art By Hazel Rayfield

2020 Miniature Artist Hazel Rayfield :: Posted by: Hazel on January 14th, 2020

Just a few photos of the year …….

Dresses and Dressing Room Painting

The dresses and dressing room paintings are proving very popular and are such fun to paint .

I’ve painted many this year as well as Ladies, like these three chatting at the Ball. Others, the gentlemen suit piece was one of a collection now in a miniature property that is a shop with a men’s department. A dressing room for all occasions…..

Paintings of miniature dressing rooms

Flowers

Flowers and plants are still one of my favourite subjects to paint . The pink peonies and purple flowers was one of my first pieces of 2020

Something different and Quirky

I love painting different styles and topics …… sometimes an idea just comes and I am often challenged by commissions  which can lead to new ideas . Painting for miniature and dollhouse properties is so varied and great fun.

This vintage sewing machine picture is off  to Canada today to hang in a dollhouse sewing room in a period dolls house.

I have painted many ice creams and ice cream billboards recently, they have always been well received and this year more so, many of which are in America now, with more than one in a 1:12th scale ice cream parlour so I’m told.

Likewise the chocolates, were a fun challenge and several are in a miniature chocolate shop here the in the U.K.

And then there is everything else …..

I have sold over 200 paintings in 2019 so these are just a taster of some of them, some are sold others currently in my Etsy shop. Ballerina paintings, landscape pieces, winter and Spring, by the river, with the Eiffel Tower, fairies of course, a cup of coffee and cake …….

Plus not shown here but featured on my blog in other posts ….. an Art Deco Collection, Billboards, window displays  and much much more

New Dollhouse Miniature Paintings and Commissioned Art :: Posted by: Hazel on October 9th, 2019

New Dollhouse and Miniature Painting Commissioned Art

I have been very busy with new paintings and lots of exciting and challenging commissions.  I haven’t had as much time as usual to do many blog posts so I’m doing one today to catch up and to show just some of what’s been going on ……

Stag and Doe miniature paintings

Stag and Doe

There is a little story behind these two miniature paintings which I was commissioned to paint a few weeks ago.

These “Moonlight Landscapes” are dollhouse size, as you can see, on display above  in my 1 12th size Art Gallery, but they are not going into a dolls house, the owners don’t even have a miniature property!

Framed size 2 x 21/2 inches the tiny pieces of art are going to be displayed in a cabinet. There is more to this story which I will share next month, as I was also commissioned by this couple to paint for their wedding, in fact their wedding stationery is very unique….. and I will be blogging about that in future.

Varied and Electic

Last month saw an array of commission requested, all varied and fun challenges…..

Dollhouse paintings
The Donut Hole – The Brief

“Hi Hazel. Could you please paint me a sign for my bakery? It will need to hang on the wall. I would like it to read “The Donut Hole” Maybe paint a couple donuts on it?”

I painted two mixed media pieces so Darlene had a choice and she had the both. The text is printed on using my own design on the computer and the I painted around with my encaustic wax paint.

Amberly Willow is a bjd (Ball Jointed Doll) doll who’s owner asked me to design and paint an A Board sign for her miniature dolls shop, in the style of a specific type of dolls, doll, yes there are beautiful dolls for your doll.  The miniature doll paintings has also gone to this collector in Maryland USA.

The Parisian Boutique street scene, with hat and dress shops in the foreground and the Eiffel  Tower  in the distance was a commission that is now in America and is going to be in a “ Paris Hat and Clothing Store” the dollhouse owner is creating. This piece is framed in a handmade wooden frame made especially for me by a UK craftsman.

The Gentleman Department. These are the latest paintings for a collector of my work, Tricia is building a haberdashery store with both ladies and gentlemen departments, these are the latest additions, Men’s accessories and ties and hanker chiefs.  Tricia properties have featured in my blog before and the haberdashery store will be, in the future. I’m loving the challenges I’m set by Tricia.

Maybe would you like to commission a miniature painting ?

Please  contact me to discuss your request

Dolls House Feature Miniature Art :: Posted by: Hazel on July 24th, 2019

Miniature Property with my Dollhouse Art on display

Firstly I would like to thank Danielle in Ohio who have very kindly sent me photos of her wonderful dollhouse miniature property with my Art In Wax paintings on display.

I’m always thrilled to see and hear about where my art is on display.Dollhouse featuring my miniature paintings

I love seeing where my art now resides so I’m very proud to show today, pieces of my art in this amazing dolls house, which is itself a work of art, with such care attention to detail this house created and decorated over the past seven years, and I’m told “I’m is still adding and taking away from it today” ….. we all know that feeling.

Paintings On Display

Currently four of my paintings are in this dollhouse, two hats mixed media pieces and a period style dressed mannequin are in the Haberdashery Room and the framed vase of Hydrangea flowers in a bedroom.

Look closely and you will see, her dresser with the yarns, ribbons and the sewing machine which are just so adorable.

Dolls House Artist The Dressing Room Collection :: Posted by: Hazel on June 20th, 2019

The Dressing Room Collection

Miniature Dolls House Art

Miniature Dolls House Art

Over the years I have painted many subjects which I’m very honoured to say are in homes, miniature dollhouse and art collections all over the world, at the last count in 18 countries on 4 continents….. yes I do have to pinch myself when I say this !

I have from the start painted collections, as you can see from my exhibit page on the website and this blog where some have been featured, my poppy paintings especially and in recent years my fairy and ballerina pieces in miniature have been very popular.

Mannequin and The Dress Room Miniatures

I have painted dressed mannequin pieces for a while now and then earlier this year I painted the mannequin in the corset in the photo above but this time added the detail of the dressing room, this painting was only just posted online when it sold and I had more enquires. Many of the paintings above are now sold, there are some in my Etsy store and of course I’m happy to paint one as a commission if you would like one.

Most of the paintings shown are 1:12th dollhouse scale size, for example the wedding dress, bottom right is just 2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The painting next to this is called “The Audrey Dress” and is ACEO size so 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches.

I hope you like this new collection, please leave me a comment below.
