Chocolate Box Art

Pretty Landscapes with a Traditional Feel

Sometimes a traditional or pretty scene of landscape catches your eye and you think, arrrrhh that’s like a picture from a chocolate box. But then maybe I’m showing my age !!

I just googles it and ….

And wiki tells me ……

Chocolate box art originally referred literally to decorations on chocolate boxes. Over the years, however, the terminology has changed; it is now applied broadly as an often pejorative term to describe paintings and designs that are overly idealistic and sentimental.

Christmas Shopping handmade arts and crafts :: Posted by: Hazel on November 8th, 2014

Arts and Craft @ Christmas

Its that time of year again, Christmas is coming and there are lots of Arts and Crafts fairs, Christmas Market and Handmade events for us to attend in venues across the country. Many church halls, events centres, country house hotels see a varied mix of Artisans and Crafters setting up stalls and stands, bringing out the bunting and tempting us with lots of unique goodies for us to buy as christmas gifts or treats for ourselves in the run up to Christmas.

Art In Wax will be at a couple of miniature fairs in the run up to Christmas but for a easy way to buy your gifts why not shop online…….

From wall art, mounted ready to frame to smaller pieces that sit on a mini easel or shelf, with no need to frame and no need for lots of wall space to, of course, my range of miniature paintings ideal for dolls houses but also very collectible as miniature art works. Art In Wax has something for everyone …..

Arts and Crafts Online

There are some wonderful shops online selling handmade arts and crafts.

Outlets where people buy direct from the artisan such as UK based Folksy and US based Etsy ( I have stores on both) are very popular.

As well as selling I also shop online and have bought some wonderful and unique gifts for friends and family….. and for myself naturally !!

I can’t mention them all but Gerda Bags on Etsy is one of my favourites as is Flamehaired Jewellery Folksy shop.

I am also part of the art community on folksy where there are many artists painting in many styles and mediums, I will be asking then if they would like to contribute to this blog so watch out in the comments for links to other artists and crafts shops too.

Unique and Special Gifts For Christmas 2014

So whatever you are looking for as a gift or treat for yourself, why not think about a unique handmade gift or piece of art.

Enjoy your shopping

Flame Haired Jewellery Designs :: Posted by: Hazel on February 11th, 2014

Original design handmade jewellery By Flame Haired Jewellery Designs

I thought it might be fun to do a blog post to showcase an artisan friend of mine.

I met Hazel Brant via the UK “Modern British Crafts” arts and crafts shopping outlet Folksy.
braclet - handmade by flame haired jewellery
Hazel and I don’t just share the same name but also a passion for art and beautiful things.

Hazel is a jewellery designer with a unique style, creating beautiful pieces of original design handmade jewellery, from Charm bracelets and necklaces to earrings and bag charms each piece is handmade and many pieces co-ordinate to make lovely sets.

Her shop is called : Flame Haired Jewellery Designs

These are direct quotes from her shop profile ……..

I love to make jewellery, using mostly crystal glass and semi-precious stones. I have varied tastes, resulting in a diversity of designs.

I am inspired by nature, and also love Gothic and quirky styles, so you never know what you might find!.

I love doing commissions, and would be more than happy to make a bespoke item to your style and colour of choice from my huge collection of beads and findings.

I own several pieces of Flame haired jewellery and have also given them as gifts, they are beautiful pieces, I even had a commission made in a bee theme, which you can see at the top of this post – well it had to be really as my passion is for painting in beeswax ……..

These are just a few of the pieces currently in store

The examples show a very small selection of the varied pieces designed by Hazel, from the Copper Hematite Flower Charm Bracelet in a Victorian elegance of steampunk style, to the Valentine Heart and Peach Crystal pieces and the Dragon Amethyst Bracelet and bag charm to the Unisex Wolf Head Hematite Bracelets.

Arts and Craft Fair :: Posted by: Hazel on November 1st, 2012

Arts and Craft Christmas Fair

Arts and Craft Fair Poster

That time of year

Yes its that time of year again. Christmas is coming and the season of Arts and Crafts fairs are starting in venues across the country, from small church halls to country house hotels, Artisans and Crafters are bringing out the bunting and setting up stalls with lots of treats and goodies for us to buy as presents and gifts.

Arts and Crafts Online

For November in the run up to Christmas the Art In Wax website will be hosting a virtual Arts and Craft Christmas fair on the exhibits page.

The exhibits page changes from time to time to show either Encaustic Art Exhibits or Photography by Adrian (My Husband), but I thought it would be a great idea to use this page to exhibit some other Artists and Crafters, hence the idea for a virtual Arts and Crafts Fair.

Visit the Exhibitors

I am hosting the fair on my exhibits page and I have invited a selections of other Artists and Crafters to join me and have a virtual stall. Each has its own small area on the page with details of their Art or handmade goods which in turn links to their online store so you can browse all their wares.

I know most of the exhibitors shops from online retail outlets such as Folksy and Etsy, and we have met in the communities hosted by these outlets, I have one of Natalie Trilby hats, one of Gerda’s bags, a notebook from Edwina, Jacqui made me an apron, bracelets from Alison to name drop just a few! And many of them have a piece of Art In Wax.

Christmas Shopping

I love Christmas shopping and giving a unique gift to me makes it even more special. I love to give and own handmade goods. Please take a look at the virtual fair, there are a wide variety of gift shops exhibiting, from Art, Watercolors, Acrylics, to Jewellery and Handbags, Notebooks, Paper-crafts and Card making to Fabric and Knitted Goods.

So whatever you are looking for, for yourself or as a gift why not think about a unique handmade gift or piece of art and take a look at our online Arts and Crafts Fair
