Art In Wax : Encaustic Art By Hazel Rayfield

How to paint a dolls house miniature painting :: Posted by: Hazel on March 13th, 2019

How this went from this to this dollhouse art

How I painted this dolls house miniature painting

I’ve been taking some step by step photos of how I painted this new floral arrangement miniature dollhouse painting.

As I am an encaustic artist, painting using heat tools it was not easy to paint and hold the camera!

The stages of my latest miniature painting

You can see the stages as I layered the wax paint, I started with an Encaustic gloss card with was cream colour, layering gold wax to start the background.

Putting in the basis of the basket and then the leaves and the flowers, the edge is painted on in a silver wax paint to give a nice finish and highlight to the piece.

The painting then gets a light polish with a soft cloth, painting the wax is Matt in finish this little polish brings the depth and sheen to life.

This painting is in a Streets Ahead frame and shown here in my own 1:12th Gallery.

Dolls House Haberdashery Paintings :: Posted by: Hazel on February 5th, 2019

Haberdashery In Miniature

Haberdashery sewing machine art
A collector of my miniature art, who is a dolls house collector and miniaturist contacted me a short while ago as she was starting her latest project, a miniature 1:12th scale haberdashery, come dress shop, come Ladies boutique, in a vintage period style, and she asked me to paint some specific pieces of miniature art for her new project.

Commissioned to paint for a themed property

So I have been commissioned to paint for this interesting project and I’m having a lot of fun painting in the theme, with an open brief my imagination and Wax has been flowing.

I have worked with Tricia before on her Dance Studio and she has quite a collection of my miniature Art In Wax. These are some of the paintings for her haberdashery store, which is now underway, the building shell of the shop can be seen in the picture above, once the property is complete I am hoping Tricia will let us see the finished shop, with all it’s Art In Wax on display.

Haberdashery paintings

The mannequin dress painted panels are 13 cm high and will be mounted in the wall. The panels tie in with the set of four miniature pieces each with the project theme, period style dresses, sewing, threads, wool and yarn. All these pieces are painted in Encaustic paint on specialist gloss card which is cream in colour. The most recent piece, finished this week is the antique style sewing machine and and basket of fabric painting.

The two mixed media advertising style plaques, are unusual and a unique challenge of their own.

Mixed Media Miniature Art In Wax

This painting style like a sign, plaque or advertisement works great as a miniature for a dollhouse size shop. Giving a very unique and personal feel to the art. I have in the past painted in this style for property signs and personalised art.
The paintings are a combination of ink and encaustic Wax paint. I used my computer and printed the ink lettering into a semi sheen (and semi absorbent) card support then wax painted over the printing, this seals the print into the painting and then I paint the picture. Only the text is printed.

Impressionist dolls house paintings :: Posted by: Hazel on December 23rd, 2018

New Miniature Paintings

I finished these two new miniature pieces of my original encaustic art this week.

A new subject for me, and definitely a little more impressionistic……

Street café dollhouse painting

I’m calling them “Spring Café” which is 45 x 60 mm and the framed one is 4×3 inches is “Meeting up at the café.

Spring Café has ladies outside a café on a tree lined avenue, featuring building and shops with flowers and flower boxes on the walls.

As I say, I’ve gone a little more impressionist with my paintings for these pictures. The street scene, Meeting up at the café is a fun piece with people gathering for coffee at a street café. Their is lots of details to keep the interest and this was a fun challenge to paint.

You can own these paintings

These two miniature paintings are currently listed in my Etsy store for sale : https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ArtInWax

New Miniature Season Paintings

Miniature dollhouse paintings

These are a few of my latest miniature paintings, for dollhouse and miniature art collectors. They all have a seasonal theme with snowman featuring more this year. My winter landscape pieces are very popular as always and Christmas trees a firm favourite together with a fairy godmother or two.

I hope you like this selection of paintings
