Dollhouse Directory

I don’t often do blog posts about other websites but just wanted to thank Rosie of the Dollhouse Directory for adding my work and site to her new website, which is growing all the time with new miniature stores ……

I hope that you enjoy our site and use it often. While this dream started as a simple directory for all things miniature, we are now working on a new dream as well – that of making this site a community home for all miniature enthusiasts. We will remain link-based, meaning that we link to the sites of our contributors rather than having the content on our site. However we will also be bringing the community together for online seasonal events and weekly newsletter updates. We will be showcasing your creations alongside those of our talented artisan and shop contributors.

Ballet Miniature Dolls House Paintings :: Posted by: Hazel on September 7th, 2019

The Ballet

New collection of miniature art

Dollhouse ballerina paintings

Last week I painted 5 ballerina style paintings and put them on display in my miniature art gallery and one of my collectors asked if she could buy them, so they are off to Wales.

These were ….

Nutcracker ….. a Christmas tree in the background a tiny painting just 1 1/4 inches wide.

Swan Lake …… the blue one with a forest backdrop and a lake floor 2 x 1 1/2 inches

Cinderella …. her carriage just peeking into view  2 x 2 inches.

Plus “Ballet Practice” And Prima Ballerina with the curtailed call.

Great Fun to paint

They are great fun to paint and so I thought maybe do some other different ones, and they are proving very popular ….. some of these are still for sale in my etsy shop.
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ArtInWax

Fairy Ballerina …… from sleeping beauty maybe?
Swan Lake Balletahain this time with a green forest backdrop
Cinderella Ballerina a tiny piece with a carriage of course
Christmas Ballet ….. perhaps the nutcracker
Red Ballerina ….. taking a curtain call from the Firebird Ballet maybe ?

Commission a miniature dollhouse painting

I have also been asked to paint a couple paintings as a commission in this style, so the fun continues

Any requests ? Please contact me if  you like me to paint a miniature ballerina for you ?

8 years of Art In Wax with Miniaturist Hazel Rayfield :: Posted by: Hazel on September 3rd, 2019

Celebrating 8 years of Art In Wax

Celebrating 8 years with a little trip down memory lane …..

It’s been 8 years of Art In Wax online and blogging, so I thought it might be fun to take a look back at some of the posts. My blog has 245 posts and 375 comments so this is just a brief highlight of some of the posts, not in any specific order.

It was September 1st 2011 when the Art In Wax Blog was launched, designed and built by myself and my husband Adrian.

I am very proud to say my art has been very popular and I sell internationally, with pieces of my Art In Wax currently in 18 countries on 4 continents …… as far as I know. The first painting I sold was actually in August 2011 ….. you know who your are …. Margaret.

So on to the highlights …..

I had been painting and selling larger paintings and ACEO collectible miniature art when I was commissioned to paint for a Dolls House and as they say ….”the rest is history” and my dollhouse art is what I now concentrate on painting.

My art and my miniature Art Gallery have featured in magazines and blogs and even appeared on TV once …..

On the October 5th 2014 I blogged about my First Dolls House Fair
https://www.artinwax.co.uk/blog/miniature-dolls-house-art-fair/
I did a year of fairs and exhibitions which was great fun, but as I sell my art worldwide, and the changes to the way we all Shop means I now only sell online, in my Etsy store and via my website and Facebook page.

Advertising Board and Posters Dolls House :: Posted by: Hazel on August 13th, 2019

Mixed Media Original Miniature Art Furniture

My latest commissions have been in my mixed media style of art.

I have painted pictures with the addition of printed words in the posts but these two new projects were a little bit different.

The Brief #1

Design a advertising bill board to go out side a miniature haberdashery shop. The shop is a period style and the signs I designed and painted reflect the tone and theme of the clients miniature shop.

For this project I just had to make the advertising boards, the lady is going to make her own frame structure for them to go into.

These are the two options I made so the lady had a choice, she has chosen the ones on the right with the gold colour lettering. They are 3 inches by 2 approximately.

The Brief #2

I was commissioned to design and paint two posters for a performance of the Nutcracker in a miniature Dolls house 1:12th scale size theatre. These are very detailed and tiny.

This collector has several of my ballerina paintings in her miniature Ballet studio.

Mixed Media. Printed Wording and Encaustic Painting

1:12th scale advertising poster and bill board
I designed the layout on my computer and printed the wording then painting each individually. For the bill boards, the cotton reels, threads and needles and dresses are all painted in Encaustic Wax after the print had dried.

The posters are made in a similar way, a mixed media piece of art is in this way a unique piece dollhouse furniture.

The Gallery

I’ve been painting for my own miniature dollhouse size property too. This A board style piece is now on display in The Gallery.
The Gallery is my 1:12th Art Gallery.
A Victorian Double fronted Shop but inside is a contemporary art gallery. My husband built it for me including building a bespoke floor, piece by piece, added ceiling lights and built me easels a browser and some of the frames ……

Would you like a one of a kind sign or poster ?

Need more information on how to commission me to paint for you ? please comment or message me.

Mixed media original art.
Printed wording and painting in Encaustic Wax.
Collectible miniature art not suitable for children.
I could do one for a Tea Shop, Cafe, Florist, Cake Shop, Boutique, Sweet Shop, Beautician, Pub, Gallery.
