Cottage Collection Miniature Dolls House Art :: Posted by: Hazel on November 22nd, 2017
Cottage Landscape Miniature Art
Dollhouse and Miniature Art
Just a very quick post today as I have been very busy with painting and not had a lot of time for blogging, but I wanted to show my latest pieces of Art In Wax ….
These new paintings are all in a pretty soft and colorful style and each features a pretty cottage in the landscape.
They are proving very popular and this month several have gone to new homes for dolls houses and miniature collectors both here in the UK and overseas. In fact of the five paintings shown here currently the only one still available is the one in the black frame …. but never fear there will be more of these ….
Why not check out my Art In Wax Etsy store or follow my Art In Wax page on Facebook where I show all my new pictures first.

Painting onto a different type of Card
Recently I have been working painting with my encaustic wax on some patterned papers I bought from a local craft shop and they have a very different effect so I thought I would show some here today.
These design papers have an abstract print in what, I feel are rustic / distressed / shabby paper chic style. They are a 200gsm Matt paper support, unlike the encaustic card I mostly paint on which is a gloss. The gloss card allows the wax to move and flow, it allows for blending on the support. The Matt surface is porous so when the wax is on its on !! I blend colours before applying more and a little by reheating the wax once in place. It gives an interesting effect and the wax has a great contrast in texture to the paper background.
I have painted these three pictures : Red Poppies : Purple and red poppies : Flower pot in this style recently and as you can see the results are modern style pieces of wall art. Each of these paintings are 6 inches wide, and different heights I have cropped the photos for this blog post but they are for sale and I can send more information on sizes and if you would like them mounted or not. Please contact me for more details on how to buy Art in Wax.
I have also painted some miniatures in this way using tiny pieces of these patterned paper. And in the next blog post I will show photos of me painting in miniature in this way.

Vintage Car Landscape Miniature Art By miniature artist Hazel Rayfield :: Posted by: Hazel on June 9th, 2016
Vintage Car Landscape
New Miniature Art
With father’s day approaching I thought I would try something different, so this miniature painting is for my Dad.
Its a landscape with a green vintage car, its not a specific car, we can in trouble saying its based on this or that but its in the style of a vintage car and my Dad will know what I was implying !!!
I have painted the picture on my encaustic card then layered it onto a linen textured card to give the effect of a mount then it has been framed in a handmade wooden frame (I recently commissioned this and several other frames in different sizes, colours and styles from a craftsman here in the UK).
This frame is 3 x 4 inches, black painted wood and has a recess so it looks like a box frame. I don’t normally add any covering to my miniature paintings but this frame has a perfex front. As the box of the frame is deep and the painting texture not too high in this picture the covering doesn’t come near the wax paint. As with most painting medium it is recommended that the picture does NOT touch the glass, with all my paintings, large or in miniature I recommend that if you are going to frame a piece of Art In Wax you ensure that the painting is mount in such a way that the glass does not touch the wax, equally I personally feel they look great without a covering at all, as the wax has a lovely texture and sheen.
This painting is not for sale as its for my Dad, but don’t forget I paint commissions too 😉
