Bluebell Wood Dolls House Painting
Original miniature dollhouse art
Inspired by our walk in the woods at Hanningfield Essex over the Easter holiday weekend I decided to paint some of the amazing array of bluebells we saw on our walk. We have been tobsee the bluebells here before but this year they really are out in full, apparently it is an early show this year so we were especially pleased to see them and enjoy the colourful display.
This is my take on a miniature bluebell landscape, I hope you like it. It is 2×2 inches and currently listed in my Etsy store.

Art In Wax Painting Highland Cows – First Commission of 2017 :: Posted by: Hazel on January 3rd, 2017
First Commission of 2017
Highland Cow – Modern Dolls House Art
Happy New Year to all my blog followers.
I was thinking of a subject for the first blog post of the new year when I received a commission to paint a miniature highland cow for a dolls house owner in Scotland, so I thought the first commission of the year would make a great first blog post of 2017.
Commissioned Art For Modern Dolls House
The miniature collector asked if I could paint a highland Cow picture for her dolls house, as this is a her favourite animal and she has several pictures in her home and it would be fun to have a miniature painting for her miniature property.
I painted two for choice and she has order both, the landscape has the cow in a heather filled grassland, this is an impressionist piece and has been supplied in a black wooden frame size 3 x 4 inches. The other piece of art is a on encaustic cream gloss card and is a modern, more of a portrait style just 2 1/2 inches high.
The photos shown here are on display in my own miniature property : The Gallery which is my 1:12 scale art gallery.
Commissioning a piece of miniature art
I love painting commissions, especially miniatures, these are only paint in my style, I do not paint reproductions. If you would like to commission a piece at a specific size and subject matter please contact me for more details.
Teddy Bears Picnic :: Posted by: Hazel on September 27th, 2016
A Teddy Bears Picnic – Miniature Art In Wax
How a fun commission turned into an exhibition
I love to do commissions (I only do commissions in my style – no copies or reproductions) and I was delighted this month to be commissioned to paint a Teddy Bear which will be residing in a Dolls House Nursery.
The bear in question was Top Hat Teddy (see photo). The brief was to, and I quote, “Surprise Me”
The lady who commissioned me has been a collector of Art In Wax for a while now and wanted a new Teddy painting for her themed room, so I let my imagination have fun with the project and come up with this small collection of Teddy paintings …..
It was great fun to paint these cute little paintings and I kept getting more ideas, so after a couple of days in the studio I came up with this new selection which you can see here on display as a “Teddy Bear Painting Exhibition” in The Gallery which is my 1:12 Art Gallery, which I have spoken about many times on my blog ……
Each piece is an original miniature piece of Art In Wax

Vintage Car Landscape Miniature Art By miniature artist Hazel Rayfield :: Posted by: Hazel on June 9th, 2016
Vintage Car Landscape
New Miniature Art
With father’s day approaching I thought I would try something different, so this miniature painting is for my Dad.
Its a landscape with a green vintage car, its not a specific car, we can in trouble saying its based on this or that but its in the style of a vintage car and my Dad will know what I was implying !!!
I have painted the picture on my encaustic card then layered it onto a linen textured card to give the effect of a mount then it has been framed in a handmade wooden frame (I recently commissioned this and several other frames in different sizes, colours and styles from a craftsman here in the UK).
This frame is 3 x 4 inches, black painted wood and has a recess so it looks like a box frame. I don’t normally add any covering to my miniature paintings but this frame has a perfex front. As the box of the frame is deep and the painting texture not too high in this picture the covering doesn’t come near the wax paint. As with most painting medium it is recommended that the picture does NOT touch the glass, with all my paintings, large or in miniature I recommend that if you are going to frame a piece of Art In Wax you ensure that the painting is mount in such a way that the glass does not touch the wax, equally I personally feel they look great without a covering at all, as the wax has a lovely texture and sheen.
This painting is not for sale as its for my Dad, but don’t forget I paint commissions too

Miniature Art as a Gift :: Posted by: Hazel on November 5th, 2015
Miniature Art – Not just for Dolls Houses
I love to paint my Art In Wax in all sizes, and the challenge of painting small in hot wax is great fun.
I paint as you may know from reading my blog in hot wax, often called “Encaustic Art” I paint using a variety of heat tools, irons and heated stylus tools some of which my husband has adapted to enable me to get more smaller detail into my pictures.
I sell of lot of my miniature Art to Dolls House Collectors and to ACEO collectors too, but miniature Art is not just for Dolls Houses ……..
Many people own and collect miniature Art
Lots of people all over the world collect ACEO size Art, an ACEO is a Art Card Editions and Originals and is sized at 2.5 x 3.5 inches, if you would like to know more about this collectible Art form I blogged about it sometime ago here : ACEO and ATC : Miniature Paintings and I still paint ACEO size pictures and also smaller pieces which are suitable for Dolls Houses of various sizes.
My Art In Wax Dolls House art is now in many dollhouses and Miniatures properties, from Grand Manor Houses to Country Cottages, from Boutiques and Shops to Hotels and even a Railway Station Pub and they are sold worldwide from my studio here in Southend England, I have had an amazing response to my art over the past few years and last month (October 2015) was a record month with more paintings, large and in miniature going to new homes than any month since I started painting in hot wax over 4 years ago.
Lots of reasons to own and collect miniature Art
Miniature Art isn’t just for Dolls Houses, a piece of miniature art can be framed or displayed on a mini easel or just free standing on a shelf. It doesn’t need a lot of room or wall space so can be kept where there is limited space, it also makes a lovely gift. See my blog post about giving Art for Christmas …. Giving Art as a gift : Something Special and Unique
- Fun to display on a mini easel or framed
- No need for lots of room
- Look great in there own or in a group of miniatures
- A lovely little gift
- Someone small, original and unique
- Suitable for lots of occasions as a gift
I love all things Miniature
As well as painting in miniature I love all things miniature, I have my own miniature property, a 1:12 scale victorian shop created by my husband Adrian, the outside is a shop front but inside is a modern and contemporary art gallery Called The Gallery, which this week has a new exhibition of “Christmas trees” seasonal paintings and even has its own miniature Christmas tree. I also have a miniature dresser that has pride of place on a shelf in our lounge and there are of course many miniature paintings in other rooms, my office for example in which I am sitting to type right now !!
