Formula One : Encaustic Art :: Posted by: Hazel on January 23rd, 2012
Something A Bit Different : Encaustic Formula One
I like to try new things ……
As you can see from the Art In wax website and online gallery, I love to paint flowers, plants and landscapes, I have also recently painted some fashion art, in the form of my Lady’s Day collection currently running on our online exhibits page and also some retro style dressed mannequin pictures.
Something for the Guys
I have had many comments on my work and especially the flowers and Ladies in recent weeks, but it has been mentioned that I might like to try other subjects ……
Mr husband Adrian is an formula one fan, has been since I have known him and during the F1 season we watch most of the races on TV so with this in mind and that fact that we have a couple of model motor racing cars in our joint office I thought I would have a try at painting a racing car …….
Its an impression!
These paintings are done entirely in encaustic wax, they are in an impressionistic style to hopefully capture the feel of a racing car and have been created as a fun project and not meant to be realistic, as you can see!
The larger painting is approximately 10 x 8 with the two smaller ones 6 x 4 and are in the style of a heat haze backdrop ……
If you would like to purchase one of these paintings please contact me direct via the Art In Wax website.
Pink Roses : Valentines Day Flowers :: Posted by: Hazel on January 20th, 2012
New Paintings in Encaustic Wax
I have been painting a lot of Roses lately, we have recently created two video films of me painting pink roses in encaustic wax they are currently online at youtube which can be view via the Art In Wax You Tube Channel.
Video One : Painting a single stem pink rose, including demonstrating how I create a light coloured background then paint a single stem rose using the encaustic iron.
Video Two : This video demonstration takes a look in more detail, giving a closer view of me painting a rose with rose buds and a leafy stem, it also show more detailing using the encaustic stylus.
Valentines : Say it with flowers
Flowers are a wonderful way to celebrate Valentines Day and giving a gift of flowers in Art gives pleasure that lasts.
Encaustic Paintings, my artwork is created using encaustic wax, the finished paintings have a texture and wonderful sheen, they can be displayed framed or not (if they are to be framed they should be mounted so that the wax doesn’t touch the glass), I also like to display the smaller pieces on small display easels, I get many comments from people who once they see the paintings in real life say how the online pictures don’t capture the sense of sheen and texture as they really are.

Painting A Rose Video :: Posted by: Hazel on January 13th, 2012
Painting an Encaustic Rose
Video Demonstration of Encaustic (Hot Wax) Painting
As an encaustic artist lots of people are amazed when they see my paintings and I tell them the paintings are created in wax, many people haven’t heard of encaustic art and those who have are often surprised at the detail of my paintings and ask “how do you do that”. I have in the past made a photo demo which is here my blog, giving a photo story board of how I paint a daisy but now we have made a video.
Making A Video of this Art In Wax Rose
Filming me paint this pink rose is our first experience of making an online video, my husband is a great photographer but video is new to both of us. We are going to make more demos and learnt a lot from this first experiment, the next one will have more close ups, so please feel free to subscribe to my channel for more updates.
A Single Stem Rose
I chose a pink single stem rose for the video as it is one of my favourite flowers to paint and as such something I paint often, we have kept the video short as it took a long time to upload, edit etc.
Watch me paint!
In this video I am using an A5 gloss card, encaustic art coloured wax and an encaustic iron to paint with. I create a light background to start with and then add wax directly onto the iron to melt before using the iron in a similar way to using a palette knife to paint with.
We hope you like our video and please feel free to leave a comment here or on youtube.
